Don't be intimidated by the long line. It was halfway down the block when we arrived and overall, we were seated in about 20 minutes. They're very strict with your entire party being there so while you can wait in line, they will not allow you to sit until everyone has arrived. The place runs through a whole lot of food quickly, but the servers are extremely efficient. If you've never been, you've got to try the Dutch apple pancake. It's worth it, even if you share it with your table. The corn beef hash was great as well. Overall, a great find near the marina and gas lamp district.
Richard Walker's looked very appealing when we read the reviews and realized it was within walking distance of our hotel, so that had us heading that way. We had second thoughts when we saw the line. There is no list, you just take a place at the back of the line. We decided to take a chance, and this is where it changed from being a normal wait. The restaurant has a great system. What we thought would be an hour wait (we were nearly to the street corner), took about 35 minutes. They make sure you have menus so you can figure out your order ahead. For large parties, they will actually take your order while you are in line. They seat from the line according to party size and availability. We were placed ahead of a large party in front of us. Once you get inside, it makes sense. We did not see anyone standing around or moving slowly. It was a race for every employee there. They were turning over tables to be ready for the next party in just moments. The employee we watched doing this was quick and even wiped the floor from the crumbs left by children. I never see this done. Amazing and thorough. We had immediate attention after sitting down. Because we had a menu while waiting in line, we knew our order. My iced tea was placed on my table almost right after I asked for it. Great! Our food came out quickly. I ordered a classic Benedict. I didn't really care for the ham. The menu stated I could have subbed avocado for no extra charge. I will do that next time or even ask about bacon instead. My husband had the French toast breakfast and really enjoyed it. The decor almost has you feeling this was a different restaurant at some time prior. I really like the hanging lamps and wood. It feels welcoming and comfortable, and definitely not your typical breakfast/brunch place. Our server was busy but took time with us and assured us we could take our time and that there was no rush. We estimated it took us about 30-40 minutes, top, from the time we sat down to the time we were finished with breakfast. We moved on with our day and left a space for the next party of 2 in line.
Weekday breakfast was quick and efficient. Strawberry crepes, baked omelet and kids chocolate chippies pancake. Baked omelet was full of flavor, fluffy and delightful. Strawberry crepes were just okay, I think it can be a little sweeter and the fresh strawberries tasted a little old. The kids pancakes was a hit.
They get things done here. I'm not a big fan of breakfast foods, but I was hungry the day after the San Diego Zoo and non-hotel/non-breakfast places within walking distance were closed. My feet hurt too much for other options! The eggs were better than they should be because I just ordered scrambled but they were well seasoned and had a good, not too watery or fluffy texture. The pancakes were as great as they were supposed to be. I just went basic buttermilk. I think the ice-cream-like scoop of butter is a bit much, though! The sausage links were interesting. The description said floured and I thought that was a mistake or something, but nope. They gave each link an interesting crumbly feel on the outside. I'm not sure I liked it but it was different! If you love breakfast you'll love this place. If you like breakfast, it's pretty good!
We came here for breakfast this past Monday morning and there was no wait. Maybe because it's a weekday morning, because the line on Sunday looked very long. We ordered - chilaquiles - this is one of the better chilaquiles we've had, the sauce makes it yummy because it's packed with some spicy heat - apple cinnamon pancake - wow, this is a unique way of preparing pancake, I ate 70% of it haha - tasty - eggs and bacon - husband got the usual Not sure it's worth waiting in a long line, but we got lucky with no line and the food was good!
There was a line when we got there but we're seated shortly. Food is primo and service is amazing!
Ordered: Mediterranean Omelette with Cheese (~$19) + Blueberry Pancakes Add-On (~$4) -Omelette: fresh spinach, tomatoes, onions, oregano and Kalamata olives, substituted cheddar cheese Blueberry Pancakes: blueberries pancakes, sprinkled with powdered sugar, whipped butter and a side of blueberry compote Iced Coffee (~$5) Aya's take: Pretty standard breakfast spot although nothing extraordinary about Richard Walker's, in my opinion. The line can get very long; I personally don't think it's because of the food but because it's a touristy spot and in a good location proximal to the convention center. The Iced Coffee was just hot coffee that they chilled with ice. They told me this ahead of time but I needed the caffeine anyway. It wasn't half bad but I recommend sticking to their hot coffee. The Mediterranean Omelette was really well-made and loaded! It's definitely enough to share among 2 people, especially if you get one of the pancakes as the side. The Blueberry Pancake was light, fluffy, and not overly sweet. I enjoyed the blueberry compote but again, to me it was just a regular pancake. Good try but I wouldn't go out of my way to return.
Met some coworkers here for breakfast during a conference visit. This place gets BUSY! Service was fast and friendly. The waitress said they're known for their coffee, but I didn't care for it. It was a little bitter for my taste. The cherry waffle was very good! It was more than enough food, I couldn't finish it. It was quite rich with the cherries. I definitely enjoyed it and would go back and try some of their pancakes.
Great food! Wish they had them in Texas had a great birthday breakfast first time trying them was I. Oregon
